What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
There is a popular hiking trail located in the coachella valley that has recently had a number of trail heads closed by the city of Rancho Mirage. These trail heads have been used for many years. Also, about half way to the top of the trail, the fish and game department has erected a no trespassing gate. Hikers continue to ignore the gates and hike around them. Some have even been vandalized to make it easier to get around or through them. Do we as hikers, who have been using the trails for well over 10 years, have any legal ground to stand on? We would like to see all of the fences come down and be able to use all of the trail heads that lead to the top.

So, to summarize:

We have been trespassing for 10 years but now the property owners are trying to stop us. Can we legally continue trespassing?

Answer: No
