Homeowners Association

What is the name of your state? Oklahoma
I bought my home in June 2001. My neighborhood, Shannondale South, was established in 1997 and at the time I purchased my home there was not a homeowners association in place. As of approximately February 2003 it was decided that Shannondale, established in 1987, would take Shannondale South into it's homeowners association. They have decided to start charging us annual dues of which will pay for a new fence for their addition, care and maintenance of their addition and insurance for their addition. Of course the dues will also pay for care and maintenance and insurance for our addition too. My problem is that I resent being forced into a homeowners association and I resent being expected to pay for fencing, care and maintenance of a retention pond and 3 blocks of frontage that is not even in the neighborhood that I purchased my home in. I will not benefit from any of these expenditures. My question is: If they file a lien on my property for non-payment of dues what does that involve?

**A: hire an attorney to review your legal docs, especially your title report. If the HOA has no jurisdiction, then refuse to pay and be a part of the HOA.
