Homeowners association bans basketball hoops

My homeowners architectural committee has decided that they are going to ban basketball hoops from the front yard of all houses in the neighborhood. They will only be allowed in the back yard. I have had a basketball hoop in front of my house for 2 years now and all of the children on my block use it. This was never in the rules of the neighboorhood. Can they change this rule without anyones consent? I asked someone on the architectual board and he advised me they could make whatever changes they wanted without anyones consent. How can I fight this?
