House Ownership

What is the name of your state? New York I have a question about the ownership of my Parents house. First I am an only child and my Dad passed away about a year and a 1/2 ago. My Mother is still in the house and wants to sell it. Now the Deed is only in my Dads name my Mother is not on it. I have been told that in a case like this 1/2 the house goes to the spouse and the other 1/2 goes to the children. If this is so does that mean 1/2 the house is mine and she needs me to go to the closing to sign the papers to sell the house? Robert in New York
