Is it illegal......What is the name of your state? Michigan My house, and the house right next to it, were both build around the same time in 1910. At the time, the sewer lines from both were connected before they joined the city lines (this was commonly done back then). I was told by a plumber that this is now illegal. My question is: does this law apply to homes that were built before the law was made? Can I be forced to replace all of the sewer lines so that they are seperate? |

| I would suspect you would be grandfathered UNTIL there is a problem. If any repairs need to be made they will require you to install per current code. |

**A: talk to your local building department. The local ordinance may require separation in the event of repair. |
