Inherited a home

I live in Ohio. My sister and I inherited a home, we both want to keep our share of the property, but my sister wants to live in the home. I told her that she needed to pay me rent, of course she doesn't feel she has to pay me rent. My question is, "should I charge her rent while she resides in the home and how much"? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? OHIO

Since you both own the property, whatever the prevailing rent would be on the property, she should pay you half of what that would be. The only other fair solution would be for her to buy you out of half of your share, which you have said you don't want to do.

I don't understand why she thinks she should be able to live there and you get nothing.Turn the tables on her and ask her how she would like it if you live there, and she gets nothing. I'm guessing she wouldn't like it.

As the house depreciates and you have to pay 1/2 of the property taxes and insurance, then of course she should pay you some rent.
Someday you may have a tax bill from the sale of the house. You should get something from your investment.
