What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Selling a house in Illinois. I made the mistake of buying this house with another person - we are not married. Both names are on the deed as Joint Tenancy. I refinananced five years ago and I am the only one on the mortgage. How much trouble have I caused for myself with this arrangement.

Well you have 100% responsibility for the mortgage, but you don't own 100% of the house. Can you convince the other owner to deed you their interest?

The trouble is if the other person suddenly decides they want to sell or you decide you want to sell or one of you dies, etc...

I'd get this resolved sooner than later.

**A: if you are not selling soon then start changing the liability.
