joint tenants

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

If two people buy a house together and the title is held as joint tenants if the two people decide to break up what are each persons rights when it comes to the home and the belonging in the home?

The belongings (other than fixtures) have nothing to do with the ownership of the house.

The answer is that it's easier to get out of a marriage than out of a financed house. If you can't work out an amicable settlement, one will have to go to court to force a partition suit.

***A: each person has a 50% share in the home unless otherwise stated in t he deed. And each owner could sell or give away their respective share of the property subject to the mortgage, if any.
