Jointly Owned Land

What is the name of your state? CO

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place.

In 1994, a boyfriend and I bought 10 acres of land as joint tenants in southern CO. He has long since left the picture, and I have been paying the yearly taxes on this vacant land since then. If I should ever want to sell or develop the land, what will I have to do to remove him from the picture? I have no idea where he is - Wisconsin or New Mexico are two of the possibilities, but who knows.

Thanks for any advice. I suspect I'll have to advertise for a certain amount of time in area newspapers where he's likely to be, but that's just a guess

You either find him or file and serve (according to your state's rules)him with a partition lawsuit. Spend the money on a detective. It will be cheaper in the long run.
