Land Contract and Interest Payments

What is the name of your state? Michigan
We have been living in a home my sister owns for over a year and have been making the house payments for her. We would like the home to be in our name so we can claim the interest and homestead it so the escrow is lower. We have tried and can't do conventional financing, so can we purchase the home land contract from her or can her mortgage company prevent this? Can I claim the interest if we do a lease to own? Never bought a house before, have no clue!
