MY MOTHER SIGNED A LEASE IN ORLANDO FL IN SEPTEMBER/00 AFTER 2 MONTHS OF PAYING SAID AMOUNT, THE APARTMENT COMPLEX SENT HER A LETTER STATING THAT SHE OWES THEM 78 DOLLARS FOR UNDERPAYMENT OF RENT. SHE SIGNED A LEASE FOR 6 MONTHS AT 633 DOLLARS. CAN THEY SAY THAT THEY MADE A MISTAKE AND MAKE HER SIGN A NEW LEASE AT A HIGHER RENTAL RATE?

Absolutely NOT...a lease is a lease PERIOD!

So now you know what is going to happen in 4 months so she should be looking to move or just pay the higher rent!

Have her mail them a copy of the lease saying rent is $633 & saying she isn't paying any more. If they don't drop the matter, she will pursue her remedies under the federal Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. [15 USC 1692 if you're interested]
