My grandmother transferred her two-family house to myself and my aunt and granted a life estate to my mother on the deed. I am confused as to whether or not she is an owner or a life tenant. If she is a owner over the age of 65 can she be entitled to partial tax exemption for real property of senior citizens and for the school tax relief (Star) Exemption? On the other hand, if she is considered a tenant with a very low income, can she also receive rental assistance from the Section 8 Program.
