What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Illinois

We purchased a home where all the real estate papers, MLS listings, RRAR listings etc showed the lot size to be 389x90. We found out yesterday that it is really about 209x90.

What recourse do we have? We fel duped and cheated. We are in the process of getting the plat info from the Rockford city officials but have not received it yet. In this area, surveys are not required for real estate transactions like ours (we bought the home 2 months ago).

What can we do?

**A: So what if surveys are not required in your area.
There is no law requiring a survey. Ordering a survey, home inspection etc. is just common sense and proper due diligence. Without a survey how do you know exactly what you are buying?
Your post just supports the need for a survey prior to closing even if there is no legal requirement to do so.
What does your Realtor have to say about this problem?

This is the thing that ticks me off about real estate--the whole buyer beware thing. The realtor's idea is that they can claim things, but they might not necessarily be true, so it is up to the buyer to find out the truth. I'm guessing that at the very least, you paid for property that you didn't get. There should be some recourse. I'd talk to the real estate company first.
