multiple owners of property

My son inheritated some property from his dad who passed away 3 years ago. He purchased a piece of property with his wife (who is also deceased now) and with another couple (the husband of this couple is deceased). The only one who has been taking care of the property has been my son. The wife of the other couple has moved out of state and has been out of state for about 10 years. She has contributed nothing to the upkeep of this property nor has she paid any of the property taxes. The only ones still living is the wife of the other couple and my son. His dad left him the property through a Quick Claims deed. Is there any law for abandonment. The property is in New Mexico.
