non-citizens owning real estate ?What is the name of your state? TN (I've also cross posted this to the immigration law forum) Is it possible for someone here with a green card, with a full-time job (don't know if it was sponsored or not) to buy/own real estate in the US ? I know back in the mid-1800's an immigrant could not buy or own real estate unless they filed an intent to naturalize (my gr-gr-gr-grandfather went thru it). Does that law still hold true in some form or is it completely gone ? I know there are people from all over the world with property here, and corporations as well, but I was wondering how this worked ? |

| I know that on an FHA loan, permanent resident aliens as well as non-permanent resident aliens can get an FHA mortgage provided they have a social security number, are eligible to work in the US and owner occupy the property. Citizenship is not required for eligibility under the FHA programs. So I think the answer to your question is "Yes". |

| In addition, lenders that do non FHA (FNMA and Freddie too) also loan to non US citizens. Buyers paying in cash are welcome. There may be tax and other implications on a purchase or sale. |
