thanks for the help gottago...one more question. where would I look to research this...real property??..zoning??...got any case law i could borrow?. By the way, the house was a real financial reach for me, so i hate to have some tree hugger lower my property values when he could easily plant the trees on other portions of his property.....thanks...

NoloPress.com publishes an excellent book on the subject. Here's the link to their site/book:

It contains a great deal of info on the subject, including references to local laws and ordinances.

Tree law varies greatly from state to state. Besides reading the above book, I would also contact your local county code enforcement office. They will be familiar with local/state tree laws.
