Out of control Home Owner's Association

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

My Home Owners Association (Houston TX) wants me to remove all plants except one hedge, 1 tree, and put in lawn where my flower beds were. Other houses in the HOA have more than 1 tree. In fact the deed restriction requires two trees. Other homes also have flower beds. They have recently sent this to their lawyer, who wrote a letter to me and want me to pay $140 within 10 days for the lawyer letter and for me to complete this task within 10 days. But when I tried calling the lawyer's office, the lawyer will not take my call. I've called about 9 times in the last 7 day. what can i do?

I admit it was "messy" in the past, but I've cleaned up and they are still on my back.

**A: you seem to have had a run in with the HOA before and now you are the black sheep. You can hire your own lawyer if you feel that is the thing you need to do.
