What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
We live in California and own 15 plus acres of land in Pa.
This summer, we had a problem with people comming on our
property with their ATVs disturbing the people that live nearby.
We have "No Trespassing" signs posted. Is there a better way to
keep unwanted visitors away? Can we be sued if someone that is
trespassing gets hurt on our land?
Thanks,
Diane

Put up the fence, put up the legal version of the "no trespassing" signs up, and send a notice to the ATV riders (if you know who they are) that the area is private property.

**A: one of the better ways would be to fence your property. Another way is to have security guards.
Call the cops.

ATV and dirtbike riders are under no illusions that they are trespassing.

They simply don't care.

There are scant holdings of public land on the east coast where ATV riding is allowed. Trails are well marked and highly regulated. If you are not riding a trail or your own property, you are trespassing. If not for trespassing there would be no place to ride is their lame excuse.

Fencing land you don't patrol = breached fence.

Fencing is even with simple barbed wire fence is expensive, and you may have legal impediments to fencing your land in this fashion. And real fence, like chain link or stockade - around 15 acres ... and again the same problems.

Dealing with ATV trespass is a constant headache. Possibly the biggest fun-sucking problem with rural land ownership on the east coast.

Be prepared for whatever you do to be met with reprisals. You think somebody with 2000cc 4x4 mini tank is going stop and listen? No they are going to tear a$$ and even if you got a gun, they probably do too.

If your land is part of or adjoins a trail network (state, club, or illicit) I would consider coming up with a use plan instead of fighting.

Either that or sell.
