paying off "first", not in my name

What is the name of your state? california
i purchased a home at a foreclosure auction, due to bad info, i only bought the "2nd", but i now have the trustee deed. i am selling the house. i have been told that the first can be paid off at the close of escrow, even though it's not in my name, ( the house has been vacant and the 1st was also in foreclosure) the loan company allowed me to bring the loan current. i am afraid that if i pay these other peoples loan off, that they can come back and try to take the house, but my lawyer says that since i have the trustees deed, that that cannot happen, is he correct? thank you

**A: if there is no right of redemption in CA then your attorney is correct.
