| Prior Tax Sale..Deed unmarketable??? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? South Carolina
I was within 3 days of closing on an investment piece of property that I 'own'. The closing attorney called and asked if I was aware that the property had previously been sold at a tax sale by the county. Yes, I was aware. I was not the purchaser, but I knew that that had happened. He told me, that he could not get title ins. for his clients and that he must counsel them not to proceed to close due to this fact... This property has been sold 3 times since the GOVT has sold it. When the Gov takes your property, thats it. Why should I have to spend a couple of thousand bucks to file a "suit to confirm title" . It is obvious in the public records that the county sold it at tax sale to Joe Blo. He sold it to Sucks a Lot..who sold it to me. I have paid past due taxes...property owners fees.. and current taxes... I listed the property.. finally had a buyer that made all this OK for a 5K profit. Now I'm told that days before closing that my title is not good because I have not spent another 2k to have a 'suit to confirm title' ...bull****....the law is the law. If the county takes you property because you cannot pay the taxes then thats it. It is sold. I know that you have in SC 1 year to get uptodate. But the sale in question on my closing happened in 98. WTF?
Input please.
