real estate commission

What is the name of your state? Tennessee

I had signed an agreement to market property with a realtor, after 3 days I asked the agent what it would cost me to rescind this contract because I had changed my mind about listing the property. He told me that it would cost nothing and that he would take care of it. I even offered to pay any advertising cost and he said it was not necessary. I had a relative who made us an offer on the property 2 days later and we accepted and closed on the property. Now the realtor wants me to pay them a commission and they didn't even bring a buyer to me. Is this legally binding and is there a time frame between the time I sign the contract and the time for me to change my mind? Thanks for any help!!!

Read your listing contract. It may state you would be responsible for their commission for a certain amount of days after the listing agreements ends. I have no law background but would try talking to the broker about it.

**A: there is no grace period in such a contract. You owe the full commission. Read the contract.
