real estate involving minor child

husband died without a will, he owned one acre of ground before we married, we were married 27 yrs, never had my name added to the deed. When he died tried to get it changed over but had a son who was 11 at time. Was told had to get a lawyer and the court would appoint him a guaradian why ??

Because he was a minor and not of legal age to represent himself.
