What is the name of your state? Illinois
We purchased a house in 1998 and were aware that the front corner of the property was in a flood zone, a good 200+ feet from the house. Today we received a letter from our morgage company that we need to purchase flood insurance because the house is sitting in a flood zone. The FEMA maps for our area are dated 1995 yet the survey company used maps from 1957 when we purchased the house. Do we have any recourse against the survey company? Obviously we would not of purchased the house had we known it was sitting in a flood zone. Now it will cost many thousands to correct the mapping or purchase flood insurance for the rest of the time we own the home. Not to mention who wants to buy a house that sits in a flood zone
