| Terrible driveway is a township street What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pennsylvania
My "driveway" goes up a somewhat steep hill and is only a dirt road. It is extremely rutted and uneven to the point where a friend of mine had her brake lines cut twice while going down it and nearly ended up in oncoming traffic both times. In the winter, all four of us who live in the house have to park two blocks away and walk up the hill. This is especially difficult when carrying groceries.
The problem is the driveway is actually a township owned road. When I requested that the borough pave it, they admitted it was theirs and said "it is our responsibility to maintain it." After mulling it over a few weeks, they have told me that they have chosen NOT to pave it or put in any kind of drainage - nothing.
They said that I was allowed to pave it if I wanted to. I told them I didn't feel like it was my responsibility to pave a public road but if they would turn it over to me, then I would. They have refused.
Do I have any recourse here? |
