Who does it belong to?What is the name of your state? Indiana My family member owns a trailer court in southern Indiana, someone left their trailer in her lot awhile ago and now I would like to know if that trailer belongs to her or not. I am wanting to buy it from her but I need to know if she has the right to sell it to me. The owners have never contacted her or paid lot rent. |

In other words, don't touch it until full and clear title is vested.

| You could also try to file a lost title (this would tell you whose name is legally on the title) then they would be sent a letter that would ask them if they want to relinquish any ownership of the trailer. However, they possibly could still owe money on it, and that could impose a problem. |

Geeez. Why don't you suggest they just hitch it up to their pick-em-up and drive into the sunset?

| I'm trying to help by giving info. that possibly would give them a solution. Since this is not considered a home, (because of the wheels). They would go to the "motor vehicle department" and request a record display on this trailer. You will need: VIN #, year, make and model. This will provide you with a detailed display, informing you who the owwner is, any lien holders ect...and who the lien holder is, if there is one. It's not like they left a washing machine, or a refrigerator, for crying out loud. |

| Really don't need a statute on that one. I simply read the Poster's post. The facts presented themselves. |

| Then get your facts straight. Abandonned property.

Not disagreeing with your approach.I'm just telling Poster that they do have other recourses, before they have to go through the court system. They wouldn't have to file an abandoned property suit, if the previous owner relinquishes it to them. |

DecisonConsidering the fact that I, personally, don't have the money for the court costs and things, I will have to go about this a different way. I suppose the best thing for me to do is to try to contact the owner and see what they want done. Weather they want to turn the trailer over to me or even sell it for a little money. How exactly would I go about finding and contacting the owner? What exactly should I say or ask? |

| Does the member of your family have any information on them? If so, you could run a yahoo "people search". However, this still won't tell you if there are any liens against the trailer. You also stated that they owed the trailer court lot rent. What do they want to do about that? |

| What I am not understanding is the fact that if these people break the contract of the lot by not paying the lot rent, then just leave with out telling anyone or taking their trailer with them, why can't she take their trailer for the payment. Sort of like a storage space, if you leave your stuff after so long with out paying the rent for the building they gain posession of your stuff and there is nothing that you can do about it. I know that must sound kind of silly or harsh, it's not ment to. |

| Well, that would be nice wouldn't it. But it doesn't work that way. She hasn't got the title for the trailer. I think another option you have is have the trailor court owner contact her and maybe all of you can work out an agreement. They may be glad to have the trailer off their hands, since they have shown no interest in it. But they may not be showing their faces because of the trailer court fees, or lack of money to have it moved, any numerous of reasons. However, there may be liens against the trailor. So don't be quick to hand over the money without a clear title, and its usually a good idea that any agreement that is made should be put in writing for all to sign. |
