Writ Of Execution Vs Possesion

Can real estate be used as property involved with writ of execution? A writ of execution came from a civil judgment because my ex-spouse stopped making payments on a judgment stemming from my ex spouse lying about not being retired from the service when he actually was. He was able to obtain his full retired pay amount for 2 years before the court system finally acknowledged he was retired and I qualified for part of his retired pay. He owes me approximately $10,000 which he stopped paying on. I'm not sure where this question should fall except here or civil law. I think the writ should be a writ of possesion. Any information would greatly be appreciated.
