Because you're son is one of those guys that drives around with his radio blaring. Instead of asking why so much, perhaps it's time to pull the stereo out of kiddo's car.

I think the loudness thing might run in the family. The OP is "yelling'" at us on the net.

Op, seriously your son needs to learn responsiblity I too would consider removing the stereo and making him pay for the tickets himself.

Maybe the ticket is so much because a stereo system that can play music loud enough to get a ticket costs an awful lot of money. This means the person getting the ticket clearly has a significant amount of disposable income. If the ticket was $50 the person would likely pay it, laugh it off and continue down the road with the radio blaring. Maybe the amount will cause your son to reconsider his volume.

Could it be for one that he forgot to pay before?

It should be for $201 or so ... something else is at work here.

Is the ONLY violation on the citation for 27007? Does it break the fines and the fees down?

There HAS to be another violation on the citation ... or, it is a very hefty collections account right now!

I'm still betting it a 27007 + a 16028(a)...

$146 total bail for 27007
$30 court security fee - that has gone up to $30 instead of just $20
$35 Conviction Assessment
-------------
$211 Total for 27007

$760 Total bail for 16028(a)
$30 court security fee
$35 Conviction Assessment
------------
$825 Total for 16028(a)

$1 Night Court fee

============
$1037 Grand Total

Mom received the Courtesy Notice in the mail... That only shows the CVC section up in the top right corner but it doesn't show a detailed breakdown of the fines...

And yes, I am pretty bored tonight

Question is, the bail schedule shows that the 27007 is correctable. How can that be corrected, Carl?

I don't have time now to search for the statute, but it almost sounds like it's not specific to loud radios. Maybe something on the car that's "defective" and making noise (like a muffler) which can be fixed?

27007. No driver of a vehicle shall operate, or permit the operation of, any sound amplification system which can be heard outside the vehicle from 50 or more feet when the vehicle is being operated upon a highway, unless that system is being operated to request assistance or warn of a hazardous situation.
This section does not apply to authorized emergency vehicles or vehicles operated by gas, electric, communications, or water utilities. This section does not apply to the sound systems of vehicles used for advertising, or in parades, political or other special events, except that the use of sound systems on those vehicles may be prohibited by a local authority by ordinance or resolution.
^That^, is in fact a stereo related violation... I'm guessing that the driver can disconnect and remove either the subwoofer, or that and the amp, get the correction, and only pay the $25 correction fee... Instead of the $200+ fine. Just wondering if that will do...

California's statute for a Loud exhaust is different (27151 or something like that...).

When did the court security fee go up to $30? It's still reflected in the 2009 bail schedule at $20 ... at least it is on the one I have.

Just recently... Withig the past month or so. A new Senate bill was passed (I assume as part of the new budget package that was signed in July. Judges had to sign an agreement waiving 3 to 4% of their pay (because courts will be closed one day a month <-- Budget crisis) and part of the package included in that bill changed the court security fee from $20 to $30...

I wished I remember the bill number... I did do a quick search <-> no dice.
