Accidently Handicapped Parked

What is the name of your state? Dayton, OH

Last week I had a court date downtown for a ticket from an accident I had gotten. Im not very familiar with downtown, meters, one ways etc. I parked my car at a meter that was open. Put 2 hours on it and went in to court. I come out an hour and a half later only to find out that I had a ticket on my windshield. It said I had parked in a handicapped meter. After looking more closely at the meter i noticied it was a handicapped sign. I was so mad at myself becuase not only did I have to pay court costs but now a $100 parking ticket. I honestly did not know it was a handicapped spot.
It says on my ticket that I have to pay in 10 days or request a hearing. Now since I was just in court and my court costs for that was $80. I find it kind of ridiculous to request a hearing even the judge drops my ticket down to $50.
Is there any way I can argue the ticket without going through court? I think those meters should be a whole different color, not just a little picture on it.
Any help would be great! Thanks!

Unless you have some kind of unique argument that you think they haven't heard before, you're probably going to have to take responsibility for your action and pay the ticket.

just curious; How much effort did you have to put into looking at and realizing there was a sign?

Reason; most states have requirements for marking a handicapped parking spot and if those requirements are not met, they cannot issue a legit ticket.

You may want to research the requirements for Ohio and compare them to how this space was marked.

If it was marked properly, then shame on you.
