Car impounded

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

My vehicle got impounded and it's not worth getiing out. I contacted the impound yard and they said that everyday they would charge an xtra 40$ ( plus tow fees ). They said that if I didn't pay to get the car out ( and just let them have it ) that it would affect my credit. Can anyone tell me if this is true? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

I don't know if it will effect your credit, but what they should be willing to do is permit you to sign the car over to them. After that, they will sell the car and apply the proceeds to what you owe them. You may be responsible for the balance.

I tried that once (offering to sign over the car to the towing company). The guy said, "Lady, widallduerespek, whaddo I want with another car?"

The tow operators I know would almost all accept the deal. Unless the car is literally falling apart, they can sell it at auction and at least get SOMETHING as opposed to nothing.

They don't want to take people to small claims court, but that's time and money out of their pocket and those folks usually don't have the money to pay any judgment if they can't afford to get the car out, so what's the point.
