Car Registration and License Expired!

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I'm writing on behalf of a friend. He was pulled over for having an expired registration -- I believe it was a few months expired -- but he also had let his drivers license expire as well (the month before). He now has to go to court this coming Wednesday and is sweating bullets -- has no idea what to expect. So... as the person whom he'll call if he needs bail (ha), I'd love to know just how much trouble he's in.

He corrected both things that night online. And of course he'll be bringing proof of that to court.

Help! (Thank you!)

This isn't a big deal, especially if he is bringing proof that he is now compliant with the law. It's likely he'll see leniency in the form of a reduction in his fines.

Thank you!

I appreciate the response. Saying a little prayer for him tomorrow.

Uhhh... you can't renew your license online, so I wonder how he was able to "correct that online that night."

He probably meant he paid the registration online, but I thought he meant both. I've never been in his shoes, so I have no idea about dealing with a license renewal online. The great news is that he went to court on the date asked, brought proof he corrected the issues, and they made him pay $10.00. So I guess he isn't the big liar and fraud you seem to think he is.

Thanks for the snark. Really helps in tense situations.

Sometimes snark is necessary.

Glad things worked out for your friend.

Odd that he paid $10 when the statutory amount is $25. Must have been a new clerk, or an old one that forgot the law changed.
