Car towed and now wont startI live in Colorado Springs, Colorado Ok, I put this here because I wasn’t sure where to put it. Yesterday my apartment complex had the parking lots cleaned with a street sweeper. In order to do this they had everyone who left there car in that half of the parking lot towed to the other side of the apartment complex. Normally someone would give notice saying that they were going to do that on a certain day to give people the opportunity to park on the other side on there own to avoid having there vehicle towed, they only gave some residents notice, not all. So my car got towed to the other side of the lot, this alone is simply an inconvenience. The real problem is that now the car won’t start. If there any legal leg to stand on short of calling the police for auto theft to make them find and fix whatever damage was done to the car to make it not work anymore? |

| First, you have no idea what the problem is with your vehicle, that prevents it from starting. You could have had a cell in the battery go dead from old age, you could have a fuel pump that is defective, you could have a fuse blown, you could have left lights on which drained the battery down, you could have a bad tank of fuel, it could be thousands of potential problems. Second, when you do find that problem, you will need to show how towing could of and did cause that problem. Picking up and moving the vehicle to another spot would not typically cause a "no-start" problem, but I guess anything is possible.

| This would not be "auto theft" and unless Colorado law has a law preventing such a transport as you describe, this would be a civil issue between you and the management of the apartment complex. But, like Kiawah wrote, you do not know why the car won't start so any claim for damages to the apartment management is likely to fall on deaf ears - at least until you can show that their tow could be at least partially at fault for the vehicle not starting. Check under the hood. Some things could have been disconnected to facilitate the process of the tow. - Carl

| I know some Ford vehicles have a fuel pump cut-off switch that can get triggered by an impact. I don't know what other vehicles may have something similar. It may be a very easy problem to correct. |
