Does car need to be registered

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

I received a fix-it ticket for driving with expired tags. I am in a chapter 7 bankruptcy and am letting the vehicle go back to the finance company. Do I still need to get the car smogged and registered, or is there any way I can avoid paying for this?

If you're gonna drive it, you must register it! If your car remains unregistered, you could be subject to getting towed and a BK will not get you out of that!
