dropping off child at a pumpWhat is the name of your state? I live in New York and I stopped by car at a pump to drop off a child who's mother was waiting at the curb. Is this a reason to recieve a ticket? I thought that as long as the driver is in the driver seat, I am allowed to stand at a pump. |

| Pump = fire hydrant to some. Yes, it is illegal to stop, stand, park, or otherwise cease vehicle movement at the curb in front of a pump.

| Oh! Gotcha! Is this an east coast thing then? Like calling soda "pop" and sprinkles "jimmies"? ![]()

| It is called a pump, because water gets pumped. To the OP ... take the child or the mother to court as your witness and you should be found not guilty

| There's no pump there, the hydrant is just a valve. The pressure of the city water main is all you got (spent too long in a fire department hydraulics class). |

| A driver may stop, stand, and even park by the pump in NYC under the following conditions: 1) IT MUST BE DAYLIGHT 2) A LICENSED DRIVER MUST BE IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT 3) THE KEY MUST BE IN THE IGNITION 4) THE CAR MUST BE OFF (since if the car is on for more than three minutes, they can get a parking ticket... except if there is a need to run the heat or AC) otherwise, a driver may not even stand by the pump.
