Expired Inspection question

What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania

My car is in the shop, so I was using my mother's car to get to work this morning.

My mom has had a lot of trouble getting her car inspected. She has gone three times, but because of an emission problem, cannot pass. The repair shop ordered the part needed to fix the problem, but the part is on backorder. The repairshop and the car's dealership each said that as long as she had the paperwork showing she's tried to get it inspected, but the part is on backorder, it shouldn't be an issue.

Of course, once I was driving this car, I was pulled over for an expired inspection sticker. I explained to the officer the problem, showed him all the paperwork, etc., but I still received a $108 ticket.

He told me that I had 10 days to get the car inspected, and plead not-guilty.

But the part we need for the car may take as much as three weeks to come in.

What can I do? I'm all for paying fines and taking responsibility, but we seriously TRIED to get this taken care of, but literally can't.

The car should not be driven until it is legal to do so. Maybe try talking to your Motor Vehicle Department for a temp. operating permit(?)
