Expired registration (not) in New York City

What is the name of your state? NY

I received a parking ticked for expired registration. I actually had a valid registration, but I did not replace the expired sticker on my window with the valid sticker. Do I have any possible defense to get out of this $65 ticket?

If you show up with proof that you were in compliance, you will more than likely see a reduction in your fine, with the possibility of a dismissal.

What, EXACTLY, where you cited for? I'm guessing it was something along the lines of "failure to display current registration".

Is NY funny, or don't you actually put the sticker on your plate?

In fact, you are so astonishingly correct in this matter, it will not surprise us one bit if you are offered a generous settlement, because, by golly, that’s just how it should be.

It goes in the window so our lovely fellow motorists don't get tempted to "borrow" other people's stickers...

My dream (well a small one)

Abolish all stickers.

You have the plate and that is it.

No stupid stickers on the plate (which is retarded)

No stickers on the windshield (more sensible but unneeded.)

The registration and the inspection are computer records (they already are) and the agencies use the database to check the plate (OCR and high speed wireless internet - also all availible and USED now)

Bottom line - less cost to state and more convenience to the citizen.

No but this is the 21st century and we are stick reliant on frickin decals. That's lame.

---------------

But for the OP, your failure to display the sticker means your sunk. It is very unlikely you will have any reduction in fines. That also begs the question "what is your time worth?"

Pay the fine and realize the sticker is not optional.

And computer records are NEVER wrong

(Xylene - I actually like your dream, but it does have it's own pitfalls )

Actuall sample:

Quote:
The respondent has been charged with violating Traffic Rule 4-08(j)(3) by standing or parking a vehicle bearing New York plate or plates that did not display a current registration sticker.

Respondents defense: *silence*

Decision: A valid registration sticker must always be on a windshield, and an expired registration sticker on a windshield is always a violation, even when the vehicle was validly registered when ticketed and even when a valid registration sticker was also on the windshield when the ticket was issued. The ticket gives the sticker number of the expired sticker, and respondent does not deny that the expired sticker was on the windshield when the ticket was issued. Guilty.
