Expired sticker on plates

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? - Illinois

The sticker on my plates expired on 30th Sep and I got violation notice on 1st Oct. I had forgotten to affix the sticker.

1. Would it help if I contest the notice in person?

2. Does this violation form a part of traffic/ordinance violation?

Would appreciate a quick reply!

It is just a $75 fine no points.

What would be your argument in court?

I am a safe driver and had a clean record until recently. Was caught while overtaking and got a ticket.

I am on deferral program for that violation and am not supposed to commit any traffic/ordinance violation for 12 months.

Paying off current violation is not a big deal, but it impacts my standing in the deferral program, it may be.

I had already renewed the registration on abt 16th Sep. It was just that I had forgotten to affix the sticker. I do not have to appear in court, but have a hearing with Admin Officer.

Can I argue that illegal condition did not exist at the time?

That may just work Must have been insane to get the sticker and not put it on...

One last question: is this notice a violation of traffic/ordninance and should I report it to the deferral program coordinator?

I'm in Chicago. I got a ticket a couple months back for an expired plate. I had it in mind to get my sticker but just kept forgetting. I contested by mail. On the notice they send, it lists your expiration date along with the extra fee you would have to pay if you paid after a certain date (which is about a month after it expires). I explained that I misinterpreted the notice and assumed I had another month since that's when the late payment comes into effect. I apologized and said I immediately ran out and got my sticker (which I did). They excused it and I didn't have to pay.
