Expirired Registration Citation despite current sticker

What is the name of your state? Michigan

As part of a speeding ticket the officer wrote me up for Expired Insurance and Expired Registration soley because the copies i had in the glove box were 6 months old. The car has a current unexpired sticker, and his computer obviously verified current insurance or in MI he would not have let me drive away.

This seems like purely a money grab which I'm sure is what they are after, but can they really write me up for this knowing the citations are invalid ?

The citations are NOT invalid. You are required to carry current (paper) copies of your registration & insurance information.

Zig is right. That's why the make you carry the card. Show up to court with the paperwork showing that both were in force when you were stopped and a sympathetic judge might cut you some slap.

I appreciate the info, just seems weird to me, most of my friends don't have current copies. Cops never hassle them when they are pulled over as long as their plate sticker is good and their database says its good.

I mean whats the point of writing a ticket for 'expired registration' when their computer says its not expired. Its one thing to say we are required to carry the paperwork, its another for the cops to be 'reasonable'.
