Fire Lane on College Campus

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arkansas

I go to school in Arkansas and got a ticket for parking in a fire lane. I parked the car, with people inside, ran inside, ran back to the car and campus safety gave me a ticket. I know why I got the ticket, and that he was in the right in giving it to me, but I have a few questions.

How far away from the curb do I have to be to be out of the fire lane?
What defines a fire lane?
I know I was in the wrong, but does anyone have any ideas, I can appeal to a traffic court of students?

Thanks.

If you're far enough away from the curb, then you get a new violation for being parked too far away from a curb. This is no safety zone that extends into the street at some predefined number of feet from the curb; you need to be out of the fire zone.

You should go to the local DMV and pick up a driving manual, which I'm sure can easily answer the question. Typically, a red paint on the curb denotes the fire lane, but fire lanes can also be defined by posted signs, usually with arrows.

I have a friend that used to work for parking services for a university campus, and from what he has told me: do not bother trying to fight this. Pay your fine, learn your lesson, and move on.

You're welcome.

The fact that people were in the car is irrelevant.

If you know you were wrong, then just accept the responsibility and pay the fine. How much could it possibly be anyway?

All in all, it seems like fighting this would be a big waste of time since you have no apparent chance of winning.
