Handicap Parking

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

My Wife parked in a handicap spot at local Wal-Mart and forgot to hang her placard sign on rearview mirror. It was laying on the dash and she received a ticket stating "placard diplayed improperly". The space on the ticket where the fine should be written is blank. Doesn't this mean the ticket is invalid? How do I know how much the fine is? I should not have to chase the court to get this info as I would think it is up to them to put the fine on the ticket. What should I do?

Call the court and ask.
Better yet, have your WIFE call the court and ask

ticket says to pay the minimum amount shown... well that is zero so why should we call them? I feel like sending them a check for 0.00.

You may receive a courtesy notice in the mail which will list the amount to pay...but then again, you may not - it's kind of like Russian Roulette.
Play games if you want...makes no difference to me.

**A: I liked the sending a check in the amount of zero idea better.

that was my first thought. I read on another site that ticket could be considered invalid if fine amount was not written on it. I don't want to cause more problems for myself, but heck.. the damn thing says pay the amount shown???

Parking enforcement should not have to go chasing around for where the Handicapped hang tag is. Your wife is clearly guilty of the offense charged.

You can call the court and find out the amount and pay that or you can pay the padded amount when the late notice comes through!

But the ticket didn't have a zero, it was blank.

If you want to play that game, the correct action is to send a blank check.

Gee I_Got_Banned I guess your wife, if you have one, has never made a simple mistake like this??? Why are they targeting people who go to the store for milk and eggs. It was an honest oversight on her part, she didn't think..hmmm maybe I will just not put it up there today. Have you never got out of the car and maybe left the window down?

Exactly. She's guilty of the offense she was cited for

Actually, that would be "ex wife", and mistakes that she made are no longer my concern, nor are they the topic of discussion in this thread!

For the same reason that you'd expect them to target a non handicapped person headed to the store for milk, parking in the spot which made it more convenient for your wife to get into the store for her milk and eggs!!!

Privileges come with responsibilities. If she is not up to the responsibility of properly displaying the hang tag, she shouldn't claim entitlement to the privilege of using it!

That is not an oversight... That is being lazy OR it can also be classified as testing your limits. When you do that, you gotta pay sometimes....

Many times... None of which earned me a citation...
