If vehicle is junked, can you avoid a parking fine?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

Hi
My girlfriend parked her car in an area where the parking sign was really far away and very vague. She got parking ticket from NYC Dept. of Finance. Two weeks later her car broke down completely, she junked it, and is now leasing another car.
My question is: can she get away with not paying the parking ticket if the car is in a junk yard? They don't have her driver's license number but only the license plate number: but the plates are already was given back to the local DMV.

What you're asking isn't a legal question, it's a question of whether or not we think they can still find her. The answer is yes: there are a million computers hooked up to a million databases, meaning the relevant authorities already know who she is, and likely did by the end of the day she got the ticket. Pay the ticket to make sure things don't get worse later on, because they will (a handful of people per month post in this forum asking what to do about tickets they ignored from FIFTEEN years ago and are now facing serious fines over it!).

Does this question REALLY need to be asked? I mean, you don't think the fine folks in NY government can refer back in their nifty computers to find out who the registered owner of the car was? Really?

First off an unpaid fine raises the amounts periodically if unpaid .

Secondly , the unpaid HIGHER amount may go into collections , hurting HER credit ( as in leasing a car , and any other credit she may want in the future ).

She should pay the lower amount NOW ,and be done with it .

She could always appeal it , and hope they waive or lower the fee ,if it's worth her time and effort.

His high horse only comes from you hoping to avoid responsibility; welcome to adulthood.

You will find that, in the adult world, there are very few things you can just run away from when you don't like how they turn out.

We refer to them as responsibilities.

To all that replied: she paid her ticket to avoid further trouble. Thank you!
And to all you judgemental people out there: get over yourselves.

You're welcome and, good for her. Apparently, SHE is wiser than you
