Incorrect address on Parking Ticket - Can I fight this?

    Hi,

I got expired meter/overstay ticket in mail in Chicago. Address stated on ticket is incorrect - 5 blocks away from where I parked. Can I fight this?

Secondly where I parked on that day when I was about to move-out, parking meter attended came but told me that you are just in time so I'm not issuing any ticket to you. But now I got ticket in mail.

Can I fight this? what type of documents I need to fight this? I don't have actual parking receipt as it's been 3 weeks but I have credit card transaction detail with zip code on this. Can I use that as my defense for wrong address?

    Thanks,

    Rwe

How are you planning to prove where you were parked? How will a credit card receipt help? You paid a parking meter with a credit card?

In this case, the meter was expired, right? As long as you were parked at a meter I can't see the location being a critical issue.

Yes, I paid using credit card and in credit card transaction it shows zip code where transaction occur and also i spent some time in cafe accross road where i parked and I have it's credit card receipt as well.

Only thing missing from credit card transaction is timestemp to prove that I was there for what time duration and this ticket is for overstay/expired meter. Only based on amount paid I can say I was there for 1 hr only.

But I want to fight with wrong address on car location in ticket. Do I have any chance in this case?

    Thanks for your help,

    Rwe

None of those things is apparently proof of where you parked. Besides, where you parked was a different zip code from where they said you were parked??

It doesn't seem like you have much of a chance of disproving the charge based on what you've said. I don't think you have any way to prove where you were or weren't parked.

Yes, Zipcode is different in ticket vs where I parked. there is 5 blocks difference between ticket issued location and where I parked.

I have credit card receipt for what I paid for parking and this receipt contains zip code - which geographic location transaction occur. I can prove my location using my credit card receipt for parking as well as other transaction I have made in that location

You can show that you parked 5 blocks away from where the ticket was issued, but that does prove that you did not drive five blocks and park again.

Bring your evidence to court and see if they believe your story.

The zip code on the credit card receipt does not prove the location of the meter. The zip code is usually for the entity doing the billing.

Was the meter you claim to be parked at expired?
