limitation of parking signs based on distance?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I recently received a parking ticket in Los Angeles on a section of a street where there were absolutely no signs posted. There was a "No parking" sign posted maybe 50 feet away from the place where I did park, but it was so far away that I am skeptical whether said sign complies with due process notice requirements.

I have additional bases on which I plan to base my contest of this citation; however, I am finding it impossible to find any information on the regulation of parking signs. For example, are there any regulations (LA municipal codes, california vehicle regs, or other authority) which would suggest that parking signs must be be posted with 50 feet (or some other distance) from the location of the prohibited parking?

Any guidance (e.g. reference to official codes and/or engineering studies, or any other "official" guidance) would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I believe that one sign is sufficient for the entirety of the block.

Your question has actually been asked, and answered, several times in this forum, so I do suggest using that nifty little search bar towards the top of the page.

Hello Occultist, thanks for your reply but my Q is still unanswered as far as I can discern. Actually yes I (1) did a search prior to posting this Q, and (2) did another search after reading your reply. (I do note that you've actually replied to another post where the person indicated they also did a search prior to posting and got similar feedback ("do a search") so you might already be aware that it's difficult to find this info on this site. In short, I've seen at least 2 replies in the posts stating that the signs are valid "for the whole block" or "until the next intersection" but neither of these statements point to any code (or other) support.

What I'm looking for here is info. re: any official regs -- I'll accept the answer "to the next block" if that is the right answer -- but other responses suggest perhaps there *is* a distance limitation (e.g. what constitutes "notice" to a reasonable person). Since none of the other posts I have seen answer this Q -- if you could provide some indication of where this answer might be found (beyond "do a search") it would be appreciated.

hey homeguru, I (kind of) appreciate your attempt at humor, but really, since you know nothing of the situation, and since I'm sure you realize that people posting here are quite upset about being wrongly ticketed, perhaps if you are going to post with a statement like "you're guilty" you could also contribute some useful advice? Thanks.

I hate parking tickets. I once parked in a metered parking space and put a quarter in the meter. When the meter ran out a police car pulled up so I ran to my car and put a quarter in the meter. The police officer STILL gave me a ticket.
All police are corrupt scumbags. He could have given me a warning or something but they get paid based on the number of tickets they write. Major conflict of interest there.
Anyway, what can you do?

Wow, that's strange...
You were GUILTY (by your own admission), yet you can't accept responsibility.

The police do not have to give warnings - much the same as your next door neighbor does not HAVE to give you a present for Christmas. It's nice if he does give you a break, but it's not something you should expect.

And what state are YOU in where the police get paid by the ticket?? I have never heard of such a thing. You wouldn't happen to have some ... uh ... proof of that, would you?

I have a similar situation were i got a parking ticket but it was over 120 ft from the no parking sign. I've been all over the internet trying to find exactly how many feet from the sign is illegal. I have looked on this site too but still no one seems to know the amont of feet. So i understand why another person has posted this question
