missing plate

What is the name of your state? Arizona
I live in Arizona but was visiting my sister in Berkeley, CA when my liscense plate was stolen. I immediatly reported it to the police. A few days later while waiting for DMV in AZ to mail me new plates I got a parking ticket for a missing back plate. I had a note on the back window with the police report # and the situation but I guess it was not seen. I contested the ticket. My sister just recieved a letter in her name, which I guess was taken off the return address sticker. It stated I must for a correctable ticket have the problem corrected, have a poice officer sign the citation and mail in a $10 penalty fee or mail in the entire citation plus $10. and request a hearing which of course seems crazy since I live out of state. This seems very unfair. Do I have to pay it? They do not have a liscense plate # since it was missing, but they do have my vin #.

Yes, you do. Filing a police report does NOT let you off the hook for parking illegally.

You can contest the citation through the procedures provided by the issuing agency. I suspect that if you bring or submit a copy of the plate theft report dated PRIOR to the parking ticket that they will dismiss the parking violation.

The alternative would be that everyone would remove their plates so they could get free parking.

What do you expect to have happen?

You get a parking ticket, you contest it - that's how it works. The cops and parking enforcement officers are not mind readers.

His point is that people could find a way to take advantage of the situation for their own purposes.
