must break one of 2 lawsWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? I am in Oregon, but I feel the question is for all states. I am over 65, if that matters, and travel by motor home. When I am tired, I look for a place to pull over & get a safety rest - no camping, sleep only. I am many times breaking the law to do so ( no overnight parking), HOWEVER, if I do not pull over for a safety rest, I am violating a worse law by driving in an unsafe condition - very tired. So I have decided to break the lesser of the 2 laws by pullng over to sleep. If there is a RV park around, I will pull in, but many times they are not available. So, am I guilty of breaking a law when in the position of being forced into breaking one law or the other & I properly choose the lesser law to break ? What is my defense ? Jim in Oregon |

Hmmmm, I did not explain well enough.Thank you for your explanation, Sorry, my explanation was not complete. I do plan ahead with the best of intentions, however, with all the RV's on the road now, many times the RV parks are full or the available sites are too small to accommodate even a 36 ft motor home. Also many parks will not allow older RV's regardless of condition. Many times I have planned to stop at a rest area on the freeway to find it is closed when I arrive. These are real situations, not excuses. I have been fortunate to be confronted by reasonable police, so far. I was hoping to see something that said , if you are in a position of breaking a law no matter what you do, breaking the lesser of the laws would exonerate you from a violation. |

The problem is you are making a choice between: 1) Stopping at an ALLOWED location BEFORE you get too tired to drive further, or 2) Being stupid and driving PAST the allowed spot (where you should have stopped).... and continuing until you are so tired that you pose a danger to others on the road. As for your subsequent 'excuse' post.... Your experience should tell you how many hours you can SAFELY drive, telling you how far you can SAFELY drive. Based on that, get out your nice Woodalls or KOA campground guide (or similar) and call ahead to reserve a space.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport! | I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. ![]() Hard to believe it's that difficult to find legal places to park a small RV for a few hours. And since when do highway rest stops close? Maybe you should bring a co-driver along. |

| Where did he say that he was stopping at 'rest stops'?? For all we know, he is parking in PRIVATE parking lots... or maybe in your driveway. ![]()

OP, many times I've pulled my truck into a gas station, and asked the clerk if I can snooze for a few hours out back...I've never been told no.

| Another option, and I understand this may be a strain on your budget, but it is an option nonetheless: SLEEP IN A HOTEL ROOM AND PARK YOUR RV IN THE HOTEL PARKING LOT ![]()

| Many (all?) Walmarts allow campers to stay overnight in their lots... I can't speak for the rest of the country, but in my neck of the woods, you can't throw a rock without hitting a Walmart.
