New tags on a car with a parking ticket

A car was donated to my charity in January. The car was registered in Illinois. I just moved to New York. I got a parting ticket in April, but forgot to pay it. On May 7th I got another parking ticket and was towed. WTF! NY. I couldn't get the car out of impound because the registration had just run out. So on On 10 I registered the car in New York and surrendered the old Illinois plates.

So today when I went to check the status of the previous ticket it does not show up in the system, and when I called the attendant she didn't see anything either except the new ticket on May 7.

Did I get lucky here on the April ticket?

And since I now have a new license plate tag can I get away with not paying this new one?

I'm not sure why you're surprised...YOU were the one who failed to pay the ticket.

Don't plan on getting out of a ticket.

Sure, you may be able to get away with it by screwing the nice guy who donated the car! Why don't you show a little integrity and pay for your sins? Maybe it will restore some of our faith in the charities that need our donations!

Ticket not in system

Of course, I don't wish to burden the donor with this. Please! But when I looked online and called in they didn't see the ticket in the system so it made me wonder if for some good luck I do not have to pay that one. I mean, the NYC parking cops are ruthless. I was 3 minutes late to move the car.

And in New York, that means six cars could have LEGALLY parked in that spot which you had ILLEGALLY occupied!

Former New Yorker here.
You got NYC parking ticket on old plates?
Do not even think twice: it is not in NYC's data base - forget it!
I had a dozen/year. Nothing will happen to the old owner IF YOU CHECK the old plates in their data base (for the peace of mind you may also check the SUMMONS # online too). Nothing even happend to me when I just changed the plates to the new ones and did not pay.
Not only NYC tickets ruthless, overpriced, but they also messed up. I had tickets for someone elses violations, had tickets dissmissed without my actions, lost (by the city). Always, ALWAYS question them. They have on-line hearings.

Incredibly bad advice - please don't post this sort of drivel.

Why were you ticketed the second time? I'm wondering if the tow was related to the unpaid first ticket. If not, then you probably got lucky. Please pay the new ticket and try to avoid more trouble. I know NYC parking is a pain, but the law is meant to be obeyed.
