NJ Failure To Produce Valid Insurance - But I found it after the ticket

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

I was pulled over for going a little over the speed limit in an area I was unfamiliar with, did not see sudden change, etc.

The officer let me off of the speeding violation but since I could not locate my most recent insurance and had to show him and older one he wrote me a ticket for that, immediately after receiving the ticket i showed him the insurace that i was able to locate valid for a few more months.

My question is how do i approach this in court, the officer said i can call in and tell the court building what had happened and might be able to address it before my court date. What should i do? What is the penalty?

Shouldn't the penalty be listed on the ticket or on a government website? If he said to contact the court, do that. I assume his name is on the ticket; refer to it. If NJ is like CA, an enforcement officer cannot cancel a ticket. Someone else can. I think you have a good chance of not having to pay anything.

i have not been able to find what the actual penalty is although from what the cop said there are no points, only a fine i believe

from what my friends have told me who have some knowledge of the system, if i come in wiht the insurance and it was valid before my ticket then i can be let off with no fine

i was wondering if any one actually has experience or real knowledge of the offence and how i go about dealing with it

If you list the statute you were charged with violating we can look into it and see what choices you have.
