no front plate

What is the name of your state? Il.
I was given a ticket for no front plate while parked in my apartment complex lot. I meet the requirements in my lease for parking, so can they ticket me for that?

Who gave you the ticket? Your apartment vehicle rules have absolutely no bearing on whether the vehicle is legal to operate on public roadways.

How do you know it is "private"? Oftentimes, the landowner permits/requests police enfocement on its property, and others, the law may define a parking lot that is merely "open" to the public as "public property" for purposes of issuing violations.

Your operation of the vehicle (or lack thereof) is irrelevant.

More importantly, if the ticket was issued 6 months ago, you're likely out of luck to contest it now.

The lease for an apartment where I used to live had an ambiguous clause prohibiting "vehicle storage". If your lease has a similar clause, a vehicle that is not displaying proper licensing (cannot be driven legally) may be considered "storage" or abandoned.
