No Visible Registration NYNew York State. Village of Southampton, Suffolk County. I recently received a ticket for "No Visible Registration" (officer's hadwriting). At the time my reg. was expired. It was in the car but was not on display as it had fallen off as NYS has indicated it might and I had carelessly not re-fixed it and got nailed by a crosswalk attendant while I was out of the car. I could have showed him the reg. complete with old scotch tape attached had I been there. As I know NYS has issued a statement regarding the faulty adhesive, and was planning on this being my defense. However, after sending in a request for a court date, the corresponding letter with the court date scheduled lists the ticket as "Expired Registration" Do I now change strategy and ask to have it dropped since that wasnt the violation I was cited for, or am I stuck under some technicality where the two fall under the same category? |

| You have NO case. Quote:
The failure to display cite IS valid. The adhesive defect MAY form a defense, it is not immunity to being cited. That said, the state is ALSO free to amend or change charges. That is what has happened. Your defense for an expired registration while on road is negligible. If you immediately corrected the issue, you might get a lenient court officer. Unfortunately you probably shot yourself in the foot by contesting the improper display which involved admitting you had an expired registration...

| If you immediately corrected the issue, you might get a lenient court officer As in re-newed the reg. right away after the incident? |

That is what I mean. Also - in the calculus of the probability of any leniency... How long was the registration expired for?

| If you were talking like under 14 days... That is almost 90 days. I'm thinking you don't have much chance.
