Not knowing Inspection Sticker was Expired

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VA

My daughter is in college in NC, and was visiting her dad in VA Beach. She was driving my van and was ticketed for an expired inspection in VA Beach. Is she liable for not knowing that the inspection sticker was expired?

As the operator of the vehicle, it was ultimately her responsibility that the vehicle met all legal requirements to be allowed to operate it. She failed to do this, so she is liable for the ticket.

I assume that the vehicle was registered in VA.

NC is changing away from inspection stickers in the windshield. And there has been a time period involved.

Yah, she's responsible either way. If it's a VA vehicle, it's got to have the non-expired sticker. If it was NC, if it was really expired, she's still guilty.

Believe me, Virginia Beach police specialize in expired registration and inspection stickers. My wife never put her stickers on and we got stopped (I hopped out and started putting them on after we were pulled over and the cop wanted to shoot me).

In NC they started a new program. They mail the registration renewal to you, and THEN you get the car inspected. And then you renew the registration.

Since it’s a new program some people drive around with a past due inspection sticker until they get the registration. (they won’t inspect it with out the new registration renewal) So...though it's past due, it's still legal.

That's why I asked.
