Not properly notified of traffic ticket, now in collections

    WA state

I recently discovered a collections account on my credit report and through many calls have found that the collection account is for a parking ticket. I was never notified of either the ticket nor the collection actions. The collection agency and the Seattle Municipal Court tell me that they sent out notices to a specific address. That is my childhood home, and as I am now 24 years old, that has not been my address in over 5 years. The Seattle Municipal Court told me that they acquired my address from the WA State Dept of Licensing, and when I contacted the WA State Dept of Licensing, a woman there named Cybil told me that it is impossible the Seattle Courts got my address from them as they have had my current address on file since at least March 2008. I have only owned the car less than two years; I have not been at the address they sent notices to in over five years. I have a perfect credit report and am incredibly frustrated that a parking ticket and clerical errors have now resulted in a collection account on my credit report.

!) How do I get this off my credit report and, 2) Does anyone know what law governs what procedures the Seattle Municipal Court must follow when notifying an owner that they have received a parking ticket? They told me they are not legally bound to send anything out. I want to change that so this doesn't happen to someone else.

    1. Pay the ticket.

    2. The ticket should have been sent to the license shown on the vehicle registration. You won't change anything unless you become a politician in Seattle and get the laws changed.
If you feel my answer is rude, mean, snarky or in anyway not to your liking, I did my job. You don't need to tell me.

No private messages, I do not reply to them.

You're not saying what happened when the ticket was originally issued and why you never dealt with it then.

    To Highwayman,

Please see this quote from my original post:

"I was never notified of either the ticket nor the collection actions." Like I explained, I was never notified of the ticket (it was not on my car), and the Seattle Municipal Court never notified me either. Please tell me how I was supposed to deal with the ticket when I was not made aware that I had one???????

    Hence my issue.
